Families Say Thank You

“This can’t be good.”
That was the first thought that came to mind when hospice
care was recommended for my father. It just seemed to add to the
emotions and confusion I was feeling after my father’s health took
a sudden turn for the worse.
I was wrong. The caring and compassion shown by the AseraCare
staff was evident from the start, and more than I ever could have
expected. Everyone took the time to really get to know my dad and
me, and that helped make the care so much more personal.
I can’t say enough about the nurses, especially Desiree and
Jo who spent time every day helping care for my father. It was
comforting to know he was in such good hands and had another set of
eyes looking after him. When I had questions about Dad’s long list
of medications, Desiree took time to review it with me and [work
with Dad’s physician] to make changes.
The social workers always had time to listen to what was
going on in my life away from the nursing home, as well as how I
was dealing with my dad’s illness. When I had questions about my
father’s financial obligations, Dawn went the extra mile to contact
all of his creditors to let them know what was going on. It was a
huge burden lifted to know I didn’t have to worry about my dad’s
bills and could focus more on his health and wellbeing.
And when the time was near, it was such a comfort to our
family to have the nurses there every hour to make sure Dad was as
comfortable as possible, to visit with us and make sure we had
anything we needed. And for Sarah to come to the nursing home at
2:00 in the morning to be with our family after Dad passed away, to
share memories and prayers…that gesture was so meaningful and left
such an impression on all of us.
I have been able to attend AseraCare’s monthly support group
since my father passed away. Knowing there are others going through
the same thing I have has helped me through the grieving process. I
hope my experience has been as helpful to the others in the
group.

I can’t say thank you enough to Desiree, Jo, Dawn, Sarah,
Melissa and the entire AseraCare staff for guiding us with love and
respect through a very difficult time. I will always feel blessed
for having such a wonderful group of people caring for and watching
over my dad. And I know he would feel the same way…
