Volunteering
Volunteers are very special people. They give freely of their
time to help make the stresses and strains of a difficult situation
easier. All volunteers participate in a training program that
assists them in understanding some of the problems and feelings
hospice patients and their families may experience.
We strongly encourage volunteers to use their individual skills
and talents to meet any special needs including massage therapy,
arts/crafts, music, journaling and of course--active listening.
AseraCare Hospice believes that through compassionate support
and a caring environment, patients and families may be able to
attain a degree of mental and spiritual preparation for death that
is satisfactory to them. Our volunteers help to make this goal a
reality.
Volunteers are needed in the following areas:
- Public relations to recruit volunteers and assist public
relations manager with referrals
- Administration for assisting with medical records
- Indirect care for phone calls to patients and
families
- Bereavement care for follow up with families
- Direct care and companion care for friendly visits
- Vigil team to help with patient and family support during
crisis management or active dying process

more information on volunteering.

“Thank you for being there for me and helping me through
every step of the way. Each one of you is so special! I’ll never
forget you!”
“Your services were wonderful to Dad in his last days and a
comfort to his family knowing he was being cared for by such
wonderful and dedicated people.”
“I don’t know what my family and I would have done without all
of your help. I sing your praises always. When I hear of other
hospice organizations and problems they have, I consider us very
lucky.”
“Our dad died and we called his assigned nurse to tell her she
didn’t have to come again. She was very kind. Then without us
asking and even though she was off-duty, she came to the nursing
home within an hour of his death. She was so supportive and we
can’t tell you how impressed we were with her kindness and how much
it meant to us.”
“Thank you for all you did for our family. The chaplain even
came to our family reunion! Over 60 people attended and I think he
really helped everyone!”
“You were very helpful when I was trying to cope with
everything. My experience with you was very short, but it was very
helpful. Thank you very much and please continue to do such good
work.”
“I can’t thank you enough for all your support. Your hearts are
so open to show love and understanding for those of us who are
going through the stages of death. I wish everyone could have the
experience I had with your bereavement staff. I was truly blessed.
Thank you so much.”
“Anytime I tell someone of the passing of my mother, I always
tell them of the wonderful support and care your staff gave my mum
and us. I am at peace with her passing because your staff
encouraged us and gave us much guidance through her final days. I
will forever be grateful for your care and support.”
“The care and love your staff showed my mother and her children
went far beyond the pale. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your
skills, for your love and most of all for your devotion. The name
AseraCare will always be a part of our memories.”
“Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am humbled to walk
among people who love and treat others as you do.”
