I don’t know if I can come up with enough adjectives to make
people understand how wonderful those people are,” Cheryl Gassman
says. Cheryl’s father, Lawrence Gassman, was living in a retirement
home in Lincoln when hospice care was recommended to Cheryl. She
contacted AseraCare, and was impressed by the level of care he
received — and she, as well.

I've found it less so over the years, and now I find it very
rewarding to help others," said Chera Wertz, social worker and
volunteer coordinator at AseraCare Hospice near Shoemakersville.

- Volunteers have essential role in hospice care

Jamie Wagner, 56, Exeter Township, got in a comfortable position
to push 91-year-old Lena Snyder's wheelchair. Suddenly, there were
smiles and laughter as if the duo were off to the races or at a
night at the opera or simply up to some monkey business. Jamie
Wagner, Exeter Township, is a hospice volunteer who regularly
visits Lina Snyder, 91, at Golden Living in Exeter Township. They
share a laugh as they make their rounds around the nursing
facility.

- AseraCare co-sponsors a workshop to cope with grief on Nov. 1
Oct. 22, 2009
On Sunday, Nov. 1, AseraCare Hospice, First Presbyterian Church
of Clarks Summit, and Abington Community Library will sponsor a
grief workshop to help prepare for the holidays. The event will be
held from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Ryon Room of the Library, located at
1200 W. Grove Street.

- Friends, AseraCare support Abington Community Library in response to budget cuts

In anticipation of a tough forthcoming economic year for the
Lackawanna County Library System, member libraries were advised to
cease ordering materials for the duration of 2009 unless they had
alternative funding sources. The Abington Community Library (ACL)
was fortunate to have found financial support from the Friends of
the ACL and AseraCare Hospice, located in Clarks Summit.

AseraCare Agency Gives Gift to Benefit the Make-A-Wish
Foundation® of Nebraska. CSI stands for Community Support
Initiative. The CSI program is a way for Living Centers or
AseraCare Agencies to apply for a financial grant to be donated to
meet a need of a non-profit organization in the community.
