AseraCare Hospice

Missy began her career with the Golden Living family of companies back in 2003 as a licensed social worker in a skilled nursing facility. After two years, she moved into a similar role with AseraCare before finally becoming an executive director in Pennsylvania nearly a year and a half ago. As Executive Director for her agency, Missy is responsible for ensuring that all daily operations run smoothly. She makes sure that all guidelines and policies are followed, and she provides mentorship and support for her staff.

Missy is driven by educating patients, families and the community on the benefits of hospice. “I enjoy meeting patients and getting to know them,” she explains. “I enjoy the staff participating in community and agency events to educate others about our programs.” Missy believes that part of providing excellent service is having compassion, respect and commitment to the patients and families. Understanding that they have the ability to truly make a difference in people’s lives is part of what makes the job fulfilling.

According to Missy, the benefits of hospice reach more than just the patients. Families of patients also feel the positive effects. “It is great to see what love and commitment to family is all about,” Missy said. “When those individuals can say ‘I love you,’ they can give each other support through talking, touching and caring. The family can say, ‘It’s okay to go,’ and the patient is at ease with their next journey.”

AseraCare Hospice has been a rewarding place for Missy to work, and she believes that it is a positive work environment. “I feel AseraCare Hospice has multiple opportunities for individuals to advance and explore in helping the community in the education of hospice.”
