Cheri M.

Director of Clinical Services
AseraCare Hospice

Cheri began her career at Asercare Hospice as a R.N. case manager. For the past two and a half years she has held the position of director of clinical services. She oversees and directs all clinical operations which include: providing ongoing education to our associates and members of the community, assisting in the care of patients and families and providing support 24/7 to her clinical team.

Cheri believes that a key to providing excellent service to patients and co-workers is teamwork and open communication. “When associates feel they are able to ask questions, appear vulnerable, disagree and still feel supported it results in the best service possible for our patients and families. She and her team believe in giving the service that one would expect if it were their own family.

To that point Cheri recalls a particularly moving experience she had for a patient she cared for recently. He was an older gentleman who was very accepting of his decline, and had a joke or “words of wisdom” for her at every visit. “Our visits together felt like spending time with a grandparent,” Cheri says. “Together, we prepared his eulogy, wrote letters to his family, and enjoyed each others company.”

During his continued decline, Cheri became very close to him and his family. On the day of his passing she washed his hair, changed his pajamas, and provided comfort for his family, her new family. “When he passed peacefully in my arms, I quietly whispered that I loved him and thanked him for bringing me into his life, and told him I was a better person for knowing him,” Cheri remembers fondly.

Cheri receives a lot of job satisfaction from guiding and teaching others. “I feel my role is to draw my associates together into a cohesive team that supports our patients and each other,” Cheri explains. “We laugh, cry, disagree, support, and grow together to learn from each other and take incredible care of our families.”

Cheri is grateful for the resources she receives from the entire Aseracare organization in support of both her personal and professional growth. One proud accomplishment was becoming a Certified Hospice and Palliative Care Nurse.
